Gareth & Michelle | Wedding Day

Tell us about your love-story leading up to your special day – how did you meet one another?  We met in Plettenberg Bay over New Year when we were both home on holiday (he was living in Pakistan and I was in Singapore). Neither of us had planned to be there but circumstances took us both to the same bar that evening and we have been together ever since that day. He still has the piece of paper with the phone number I gave him. We got married after 11 years together – 3 and a 1/2 living in separate countries and the rest sharing a wonderful home.

How did your husband propose to you?                                                                                                           He planned a surprise weekend. We left early morning for a 3hr drive to “pick up the keys” for what I thought was an Air BnB booking. Instead we arrived at a private airport to board a helicopter which flew us down the California coast to Big Sur. He’d booked 2 nights at the most spectacular cliff-side spa resort surrounded by redwood forests.

Did your wedding have a theme, if yes please give details:
We had a navy, white and silver colour scheme rather than theme.

Wedding Planner: The bride (but I would always recommend hiring someone for the day itself to oversee things. This was a mistake I made)

Wedding Car: My Dad’s 4×4!! No one saw us arrive so I didn’t care about this. Dad drove and I sat in the passenger seat next to him. It’s one of my favourite memories from the day – turning up the radio and it being just us before the craziness took over.

Any Other Vendors you would like to mention:

My Mother handled all the flowers which were spectacular. Plates & Things were wonderful for prop/deco hire. We worked with a pair of Zimbabwean brothers to craft bead keyrings with the first initial of all guest’s names. We ordered  Khanyiso reed straws from Faithful to Nature to prevent serving plastic straws with cocktails.
